Holman, Public Relations involves the humanisation of interactions in the business world, representing an effort to understand people's awareness and sensitivity with regard to the problems and interests of individuals, groups or companies.
The role of Public Relations professionals in organisations is becoming increasingly important – effective communication with target audiences, consumers and employees is fundamental to success in the market, whatever name companies give it. This area of communication is built into organisational structures, taking on leadership responsibilities. It represents a way of acting and conveying information aimed at establishing and maintaining mutual trust between a company and its various publics, whether internal or external.

In Mozambique, the field of Public Relations is in a process of exploration and development. Because it is an emerging field, it requires study, observation and integration into both public and private bodies. There are still companies that have not adopted it, which leaves them without the expertise needed to deal properly with internal conflicts and with various target audiences.
I recognise that Public Relations is predominantly reactive, acting in response to problems that may arise. It is clear that this area is less tied to production and profit generation, and is instead focused on managing potential crises that would harm the reputation, products or services of the organisation.

In the absence of a competent professional, it can be seen that obstacles to communication, labour disputes, an unstable organisational climate and culture, public dissatisfaction with the services provided and products supplied, a lack of commitment to the objectives set by the institution and unproductive organisational performance occasionally arise within organisations. In truth, the activity linked to Public Relations is, in essence, complex and diverse.

Considering the importance of the Public Relations professional's work for the advancement of organisations, it is my conviction that this is the profession with the greatest growth potential in the coming years. With the rapid spread of information and the central role of communication in every aspect, it is clear that, without effective communication, companies are unable to face crises or retain talent, let alone build high-performing teams.
