HEINEKEN Mozambique has distinguished itself as a company committed to sustainable development and to strengthening local communities. Beyond producing drinks, the brand takes an active part in the country's economic, social and environmental life, demonstrating that business progress can coexist with valuing what is genuinely Mozambican. This commitment is reflected in initiatives that promote the use of local resources, environmental preservation and the development of people, contributing to a more promising future for Mozambique.

Since 2019, Txilar beer has strengthened national agriculture by incorporating maize grown in Catandica, in Manica province. Between 2018 and 2020, trials were carried out for barley production in Chokwé, which culminated, in 2022, in a harvest of 1.4 tonnes in Boane, the fruit of a partnership with the IIAM, and which were used in the production of Txilar. From 2023, barley production was extended to Vanduzi, in Manica, and to other regions of the south of the country, involving local farmers, generating direct economic benefits for rural communities and promoting the sustainability of the sector.

Environmental commitment is one of the company's pillars, reflected in initiatives carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Land and Environment: in April 2024, on World Earth Day, 200 trees were planted in Xinavane, in an action to combat climate change and raise awareness of the preservation of natural resources; subsequently, a further 400 trees were planted in Marracuene, reinforcing the collective effort for environmental protection.

The “Praia Zero” (Zero Beach) project, launched in 2018 and run until early 2024, is a notable example of dedication to environmental protection, having mobilised communities to collect glass and plastic waste, promoting recycling as an essential practice, and achieved impressive results, such as 282 clean-up and monitoring actions, the awareness-raising of 121,789 beachgoers, the recovery of 1,585,369 kg of waste and the planting of 3,800 mangrove seedlings.

In the social field, the “KWALÉ a Ideia?” project stands out, promoting dialogue with young people about responsible alcohol consumption. This programme encourages conscious practices, contributing to the empowerment of Mozambican youth and helping to build a more informed and responsible generation. Recognition from the Maputo Municipal Council and AIESEC reinforces the positive impact of this work.

Training and the development of local talent are equally a priority. More than 23,000 hours of training were devoted to employees in order to equip them to face the challenges of the labour market. In addition, international exchanges with countries such as Portugal, South Africa, Nigeria and Ethiopia promote the exchange of experience and broaden the horizons of Mozambican workers, strengthening the country's business fabric.

These initiatives – from valuing local ingredients to environmental preservation, by way of support for communities and the training of talent – demonstrate that HEINEKEN Mozambique aligns its business objectives with the needs of society and the environment, proving that true success is achieved in harmony with people and the planet. An example that inspires and gives hope for a better future for Mozambique.
