Beauty is something that defies the imagination
Louiggi Júnior was born in Maputo, attended the Maxaquene school and by the age of 10 had already decided he wanted to be a fashion designer, making his own clothes and often dressing his mother for festive occasions. A graduate of the Santa Marcelina arts college in São Paulo, he presented his first ready-to-wear collection in 1993. Inspired in both political and aesthetic terms, Louiggi treats his work as wearable art, concentrating on creating unusual menswear and womenswear. His shapes are innovative and inventive and, in terms of references, are inspired by Mozambican history and religious folklore. The complex collections he creates seek to be an elegant tribute to the history of his country.
Louiggi Júnior first presented his creations outside Mozambique in 1999, at London Fashion Week, and also in Paris. Louiggi has a fashion artist residency in Maputo and some representation in the United States, Japan and Brazil.
