With the aim of raising the standard of service in the cocktail trade, the Maputo Cocktail Week recently took place, driven by Pernod Ricard Moçambique in partnership with Spice Your Soul. The event, conceived out of the need to promote and dignify the profession of barman and the link between gastronomy and mixology, showcased the Pernod Ricard brands, expanding the work of bartenders in hotels and restaurants.
As a backdrop, the event highlighted the need to value bar professionals, through training and the dignifying of the establishments in which they work, as well as the promotion of the sponsoring brands, of cocktail-making and of mixology based on local products, highlighting the growing role of networking in solidifying relationships.

The Maputo Cocktail Week, which was centred on the capital, involved bar professionals, establishments and brands, with 20 venues selected. A careful selection based on the judges’ deliberation chose 10 national bartenders, professionals currently working in the bar trade, who went through to the final.

On the occasion, the Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Moçambique, Francisco Júnior, said: “We take this opportunity to thank the establishments that decided to join this initiative for the willingness they have shown to raise the role and functions of the barman. We at Pernod Ricard could not remain indifferent to an initiative such as this, which is why we decided to contribute through this event to raising the standard of the services our professionals offer.”
“We also want to raise the standard of barmen, and overall we recognise that there were extraordinary cocktails. I think the best prize is the experience of being in a competition and the chance to improve the quality of service delivery day to day. We commend the barmen’s commitment to creating fantastic experiences for consumers, and we extend a special thank you to Spice Your Soul so that the initiative endures and continues to be raised up over time. May it become broader in scope, because I believe the country and the hospitality sector need this,” concluded Francisco Júnior.

“As Spice Your Soul, we want to provide pleasant moments of tasting and conviviality where, through the Maputo Cocktail Week, we aim to launch national talent into the catering sector. We feel, and have seen proven, that our barmen show great creativity in making drinks, and we congratulate everyone, without exception. We intend to expand the event across Mozambique, exploring our typical fruits and spices,” said Emanuel Costa, Partner at Spicy Your Soul.
