My journey began when I was very small. I have always loved art! I remember playing with clay, painting, drawing and so on, but there was a period when that place in me lay dormant, and only years later, one day, did I reawaken it. Even before I had chosen a name for my brand, in early 2015, I began creating at random, and it became a hobby. It was only in January 2016 that I took the step of creating a web page, influenced by some of my followers, initially just so that it could serve as a means of sharing what was my passion.
What inspires me most to create is my own inner search. It is the feeling behind the whole process that comes before a creation. It is the connection with my own essence and the emotions that come when the idea starts to take on life and personality. My best ideas come when I am connected to the force of all that is! Within that place where I can be myself, where I allow myself to receive and bring to life inspirations from the universe. In each creation, I want to convey the understanding, the energy of how I feel when I create, of my dedication, with the meaning of literally giving a part of myself to each one of them. I describe my work as a place where inspiration meets expression, connection and freedom, and comes to life.
The Nordic style brings me a feeling of cosiness, simplicity in details and colours, and in part that is what I have tried to bring to my pieces. I am passionate about rustic details, and about the freedom that working and creating bring me, to be myself, to often draw from flaws the singular details that no other piece of mine will have. I look at myself and try to understand what skills I already had when I decided to work on creating my pieces, and these come to mind: passion, willingness and determination. Then, what skills I gained: patience, connection, freedom and the ability to bring out the creativity that I received through inspiration.
I have a memory of when cement chose me. Yes, that is right! I feel today that it was literally that. I took a trip to Cape Town and stayed at a relative's house where there was a cement vase with a little plant. As soon as I entered the room, my eye was drawn to the little vase. I held it, and I remember saying out loud: “When I get back to Maputo, I am going to start making cement vases”. In truth, I had no idea how to begin such a creation, but I was firmly certain that I would do it. It was not at all easy at the beginning, and to this day I say that I have learned, and learn every day, about patience through art, and today I know, and always seek to learn more, about what it is like to work with this and many other materials.
All of my pieces are unique, and the energy in each of them is involved from the moment it appears as an idea until the moment it is brought into being, and I already feel what it would be like to receive one of my pieces and how it would make me feel — hence my wish that only positive feelings and emotions be felt by whoever receives them. I consider focus, determination, creativity (combined with the unique expression of the soul) and dedication to be the essential ingredients for us to thrive in the world of art.
At the moment I do not yet have a physical shop or studio, but I have partnerships with a few establishments such as Bairro Bistrô, which sells a variety of items produced by national artists, and the shop DeCasa interiores, which focuses on selling a variety of decorative items. The theme of “diversity and inclusion” interests me a great deal — I see my brand expanding in the market, bringing more jobs, including men and women, not only training and empowering workers, but also creating training opportunities for everyone who has a dream, who wants to create their own source of income, encouraging them in their small or large businesses, and helping people discover their passion. I see myself bringing new perspectives on implementing environmental and social responsibility projects, involving communities in some of them, calling for the reuse of mainly plastics and glass in creating structures that will make up community social spaces, playgrounds, and so on.
