The city of Maputo hosted the 8th edition of the International Tourism Fair (FIKANI) between 13 and 15 October. Held under the motto “Tourism as a factor of economic revitalisation”, in view of the negative impacts caused by the covid-19 pandemic, this edition set out to boost the recovery and growth of the tourism sector, serving as a showcase for the resumption of business.
FIKANI is an event organised by the Government through the National Tourism Institute (INATUR). It was launched in 2013 and operates as an exhibition for promoting and launching new products and cultural and tourism services in order to show the country to the world, highlighting the best it has to offer in the sector.
At the most recent edition of the fair, whose opening ceremony was presided over by Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique, and attended by numerous distinguished guests, a variety of activities took place, such as workshops, networking and social events. The best exhibitors were rewarded and seminars were held on the themes “Challenges for tourism development in the SADC region” (infrastructure, connectivity, security, promotion, economic measures) and “Opportunities and investment in the tourism sector”. Some memoranda of understanding were also signed between various bodies, among which it is worth mentioning in particular the one concluded between Xonguila Magazine and INATUR with the purpose of strengthening the relationship between the two bodies and creating joint actions that will contribute to promoting Mozambique and boosting national tourism. Also worth highlighting was an International Catering Conference, which reflected on “The challenges of catering, hospitality and events as a driver of development in the context of covid-19”.
Year after year, the fair has attracted an ever greater number of exhibitors and participants, having received around 5,000 people during the three days of exhibition this year.
