Nelson Mandela said that “money does not create success, but the freedom to create success”. With the importance of building a financially educated society with access to socio-economic development tools in mind, Absa Bank Mozambique ran a number of financial education sessions throughout October for primary-school children across the country.
Even before entering Cariaco Primary School in Pemba, Ismail Eusébio and Assane Inriricho, employees of Absa Bank Mozambique, could already picture the smiles and questions of the little ones once they began to talk about why the Bank had come to their school that day. The employees' enthusiasm joined the childlike curiosity of the children who received the Bank's Financial Education Campaign across the country.
The coming generations are the future of the country, so it is alongside them that we renew our commitment to keep investing in quality education and financial inclusion as the basis for the development of a sustainable society. – Tânia Oliveira, Absa Director of Marketing and Corporate Relations.
Fortunately, this feeling was multiplied at Mueda Sede Primary School, also in Pemba, at the 25 de Junho Complete Primary School in Nampula, at the Bons Sonhos Complete Primary School in Beira, and across the country. In total, the savings awareness campaign run by Absa Bank Mozambique reached almost 2,000 pupils across the country, with various activities in 34 primary schools and in every province.
During the sessions, the Bank's employees taught the children, who had fun while also having the opportunity to understand the importance of saving in order to invest in the future.
Although every moment was special, one activity touched the hearts of all the employees: the visit to the Special Education School in Maputo, where the talk was given, using sign language, to a class of deaf and mute pupils, showing that oral communication is not, and never will be, a barrier to sharing knowledge.
At the end of the campaign, Absa's Director of Marketing and Corporate Relations, Tânia Oliveira, once again highlighted the principles and the Bank's commitment behind this initiative: “The coming generations are the future of the country, so it is alongside them that we renew our commitment to keep investing in quality education and financial inclusion as the basis for the development of our country and of a sustainable society”. She added: “The numbers speak for themselves; we are very proud to promote initiatives like this that add value and can make a difference”.
Through this initiative, and as a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, the Bank demonstrates its dedication and high level of commitment to all stakeholders, seeking to align its conduct with models of economic and social development that foster prosperity, the appreciation of people, job creation, and respect for the environment and biodiversity.
