Last September, the Hotel Glória in Maputo hosted the first Communication, Marketing and Public Relations Forum of Mozambique – COMARP. The event, besides being considered a success by the organisers, participants and public, brought significant results and had a positive impact on the sector.
Within the context of the growing importance of communication, marketing and public relations in Mozambican companies, the first edition of the Communication, Marketing and Public Relations Forum (COMARP FORUM) stood out as an innovative and pioneering event. The initiative, besides connecting professionals from various sectors of these fields, provided a unique space for the exchange of experiences, encouraging development and innovation in those areas. The event exceeded expectations, bringing together more than 200 participants from different strands of communication and marketing. Professionals, university lecturers, students, managers and business leaders enriched the debate, making it broad and inclusive, a determining factor for future transformations in the sector.
The Forum's range of panels stood out for the richness and relevance of the topics addressed, namely the academic contribution to the training of professionals, trends and experiences of public relations in the Mozambican business context, the importance of building and consolidating branding in organisational strategies, the crucial role of communication in development and humanitarian programmes, and the influence of communication in promoting an effective organisational culture.
Despite the challenges inherent in realising such an innovative proposal, such as initial resistance from some professionals and companies and the need for resources, the organisers proved resilient and determined, overcoming obstacles with the help of committed partners.
Looking to the future, the organisers have set out promising expectations. For 2024, the second edition of the COMARP Forum promises not only memorable moments but also the launch of a book – a compilation of the valuable contributions and approaches of the inaugural event. At the same time, there is the idea of recognising and rewarding the most outstanding players in their respective sectors over the course of the year, an incentive to excellence and innovation. With the success of the event, expansion to other regions of Mozambique and even to other CPLP countries is emerging as a concrete possibility. Cultural and linguistic ties could provide a solid basis for sharing challenges and solutions on a wider scale.
But more than a simple event, the COMARP Forum aims to be a transformative force for the profession in Mozambique. The ambition is to create an association that represents the interests of the profession, along with a firm commitment to producing content about the sector, raising Mozambique to a Lusophone reference in terms of practices and trends in communication, marketing and public relations. COMARP thus not only strengthens the foundations of these fields in Mozambique but also positions the country as an epicentre of innovation and transformation on the Lusophone scene. An initiative that will certainly continue to shape the future of communication in Mozambique and beyond its borders.
