Bantumen, known as a distinguished digital platform dedicated to promoting and publicising the Black culture of the countries that share Portuguese as an official language, is the result of an initiative by two journalists dating from 2013. Since then, the platform's main focus has been the visibility of Black culture, actively promoting the talent that thrives above all among the descendants of Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe scattered across the four corners of the world.
Made up of a multifaceted and multicultural team, Bantumen, which currently comprises a digital magazine, a communications agency and a bookshop dedicated to new authors of African descent, offers its loyal following, more than 300,000 followers and readers worldwide, exclusive and varied content covering music, fashion, art, gastronomy, and above all African culture. The platform uses its website and social media as its main channels for carrying out significant work in celebrating cultural diversity and combating biased perceptions of Africa and the Black population in general, particularly in the international mainstream media.
Bantumen stands out for its innovative and creative approach, adopting a youthful language and aesthetic to reach an ever wider audience. Its portfolio of recent projects includes organising cultural events and collaborating with Black brands, entrepreneurs and artists, celebrating them and contributing to the appreciation and recognition of their identity.
Dedicated to promoting Black personalities who excel in various sectors of society, Bantumen also created the PowerList100 in 2021. This list seeks to honour each year 100 Black figures among the most influential in the Lusophone world, serving as a mechanism for recognising and valuing the efforts they undertake in their various professional and associative fields. Through the PowerList100, the platform aims to motivate society to recognise and value these efforts and contributions, an initiative of undeniable importance, since representation is the key to a more inclusive and egalitarian society. By highlighting those Black figures, Bantumen seeks to showcase the cultural richness and development potential of their respective Lusophone countries and their human capital, since these often do not receive due attention on the international stage.
Bantumen's initiatives confirm the crucial role the platform plays in promoting an inclusive society in which cultural and racial diversity is celebrated.
