Mozambique awaits new funding from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a US foreign aid agency, which will include up to 8.6 million dollars (7.8 million euros) for commissioning studies and services by September. The investments, according to information from Mozambique's Ministry of Economy and Finance, will cover 14 distinct areas, addressing topics such as exploring the economic potential of wildlife, projects related to "green" and "blue carbon", and assessing the condition of the country's bridges, among other relevant matters.

This set of actions will serve as the basis for the programme whose main objective will be the development of Zambézia province, in central Mozambique. The memorandum, signed on 30 January, establishes the scope and purposes of the MCC's new "compact" with Mozambique, with an overall amount of 500 million dollars (453 million euros) agreed between the Mozambican government and the agency. It was established that the signing of the package could take place later this year.

The resources made available will be allocated to three strategic areas: transport and connectivity, climate change management and the promotion of commercial agriculture. These areas will be fundamental to boosting economic development and improving the living conditions of the Mozambican population.

It is worth remembering that Mozambique had already benefited from a first MCC funding programme, which was concluded in 2013, in which the country received 507 million dollars (465 million euros), contributing to the development of various areas of the country.

The MCC is an agency funded by the government of the United States of America whose main objective is to provide time-limited financial support to developing countries, promoting their stability and sustainable growth, as is the case with Mozambique.
