Between 23 and 27 August, Maputo province was transformed into the vibrant stage of the 11th edition of the National Culture Festival (FNC), an event held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, demonstrating the Mozambican government’s continued commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural richness that permeates the country’s communities. Held under the inspiring motto “Culture, the force that unites the nation on the road to development”, this great festival proved to be a strong foundation for the integration and exchange of Mozambique’s diverse cultural heritage, not only as a living testimony to its history and traditions, but also as a powerful tool for social progress.
With the participation of Filipe Nyusi, President of the Republic, the opening ceremonies took place at the Black Bulls ground, in the Tchumene neighbourhood, and on various other stages in Maputo province (Boane, Ponta do Ouro, Namaacha, Marracuene and Manhiça); over 5 days, the festival welcomed more than 1,500 artists from the most diverse parts of the country. The range of artistic fields represented was truly impressive, including music, dance, film, theatre, poetry, comedy, illusionism, debates, fashion and social art, with numerous performances, exhibitions and fairs, a food area with an explosion of local flavours, not forgetting a children’s area and enriching art workshops. Calene, Dadivo José, Pai Leão, AZ Khinera and Mr. Bow were some of the renowned artists whose presence deserves particular mention.
The festival’s cultural diversity was further heightened by the participation of foreign delegations, namely from Canada, Brazil, Eswatini and South Africa, confirming culture as a vital element in building resilient ties between nations and peoples and a unifying force capable of promoting development. The great exchange that the event provided celebrated diversity, fostering dialogue and mutual understanding.
Looking back on the five days of celebration, it is clear that the 11th National Culture Festival made a great contribution to enhancing the value of the national cultural heritage, a precious legacy that has been consolidated over the years. Reflecting Mozambique’s diverse sociocultural mosaic, the festival was a testament to the greatness and strength of Mozambique, proudly raising the country’s name both at home and abroad.
