Founded in 2013, Wine Lovers emerged as a haven for wine enthusiasts, offering an innovative concept in Maputo. Initially positioned as a wine house with an associated shop, the restaurant gained renown but, over the years, found itself drifting away from its original concept. In 2024, under new management, Wine Lovers recovers its essence and reinvents itself, becoming a space of sensory experience where wine, gastronomy and music meet in an intimate and welcoming atmosphere.

One of the new management's big bets, by the owner Frederico Silva, is the curation of the wines, led by the sommelier Bruno Darsam, who brings his experience as a judge at international tastings and as a representative of several South African wineries. Wine Lovers excels at offering a varied list, favouring exclusive labels that are less common on the market. Each wine is selected according to rigorous criteria, which include quality, origin and the uniqueness of the grape, giving customers an authentic and distinctive oenological experience.

Beyond gastronomy and wine, Wine Lovers invests heavily in culture and entertainment. The "Wine Wednesdays" are one of the house's emblematic events, offering wine tastings that promote wine education and socialising among enthusiasts. The Jazz nights, held on Thursdays, bring artists of national and international renown, creating a sophisticated and intimate atmosphere. For a more diverse audience, the restaurant organises themed events, from Bossa Nova nights and Samba circles to monthly Tango sessions. It is also open to hosting exclusive corporate events, adjusting to each client's specific needs.

The recent modernisation of Wine Lovers includes some aesthetic improvements. With a new minimalist logo and a refined colour palette combining shades of beige, grey and wine, the restaurant presents an elegant, contemporary visual identity. The terrace has been renovated with wooden slatting, which makes the setting cooler and more inviting. These changes have been widely praised by regular customers and have attracted new visitors, consolidating Wine Lovers as one of the points of reference in the Mozambican capital.

The venue stands apart from the gourmet trend predominant in Maputo, offering home-style, well-prepared cooking. The Portuguese-inspired menu includes dishes such as fried alheira, ovos rotos, bife à cervejeiro and Wine Lovers chicken. The selection of tapas is also one of the highlights, with snacks such as pork marinated in garlic and wine, patatas bravas and octopus salad. For lovers of local flavours, the shredded crab curry and the prawn curry stand out. One of the house's distinguishing features is its system of dishes of the day, planned weekly to guarantee variety for regular customers. This approach allows a constant rotation of recipes, avoiding monotony and encouraging gastronomic exploration.

Wine Lovers' commitment to quality goes beyond the selection of wines. One of the most significant investments was the purchase of preservation equipment that makes it possible to serve wine by the glass without compromising its integrity. This innovative system uses argon gas to preserve the wine for up to three months, ensuring that every glass served retains all its original properties and flavours. Knowledge is one of the restaurant's fundamental pillars. The team receives regular training from the resident sommelier and takes part in sessions run by partner wineries. This initiative aims to raise the standard of service and create a richer experience for customers, ensuring that each wine suggestion is in perfect harmony with the dish chosen.

The management values customers' opinions but takes a selective approach to feedback. While aspects relating to service are promptly considered for improvement, suggestions that might divert the restaurant from its original identity are examined with reservations. This stance makes it possible to maintain the authenticity of the concept and avoid a homogenisation that would make it similar to other establishments. One of Wine Lovers' most recent projects is the "Wine Bar", an initiative that takes the restaurant's experience to external events, whether corporate or leisure. This extension of the brand relies on a mobile setup, offering a carefully chosen selection of mid- to high-profile wines, served by trained professionals. With this concept, they expand their influence and strengthen their presence on the Mozambican wine and food scene.

With a renewed concept, a distinctive approach and a firm commitment to quality, Wine Lovers reasserts itself as a destination of excellence for those who appreciate wine, gastronomy and good music. The restaurant is entering a new phase, but without losing the essence that has always distinguished it.
