Mozambique improves its position in the tourism market

Written by Neyde Cuna

In the midst of all this chaos, of this pandemic that has taken hold of the world and brought so much misfortune and despair, some news arrives that pleases us greatly: Mozambique has been ranked the best tourist destination on the African continent for 2020, with Vilankulo named the preferred destination of tourists who visited Africa in 2019, according to the online magazine Travel Coterie (www.travelcoterie.com).

To arrive at this ranking, factors are taken into account such as heritage and culture, tourism itself, quality of life and ease of doing business, the value system and the conduct of society in general. Mozambique beat its biggest competitors: South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritius and Zimbabwe.

It is a step forward that we take; it is our image, it is the Mozambique brand that we strengthen, and it is we who grow. As Simone de Beauvoir says, “inertia is synonymous with death, the law of life is to change”. Mozambique shows that it is on the path of change. We have evolved! We have overcome so many stages of life! As human beings, as a country. We went from embryo to foetus, we were born, we grew, and every day we seek to mature. It is on this long journey that our legs grow ever stronger, with longer, firmer strides, towards the rise of a whole nation, of a whole country. It is us, it is Mozambique, which on this long path, of thorns and flowers, shines today through the eyes of tourism. It is an encouragement. A victory. And the struggle continues.

It is news that easily turns into advertising, that precious marketing tool. It has everything it takes to capture the public’s attention, it is easy to remember and it is persuasive. It is the kind of advertising known as promotional advertising, which can be presented both in internet-based media and in the more traditional ones: television channels, radio and newspapers. It is a further incentive for international and also domestic tourism. For us to travel more around our country. For us to get to know in depth everything that makes us better, that lifts us up and that earns us recognition.

The aim is to become a leader in this sector, in the product we offer with quality. It is to establish Mozambique as one of the most competitive, safe and sustainable destinations, where work and talent are valued. It is to focus, today more than yesterday, on digital transformation, which has become a lesson, a habit, a way of being and living in the world of tourism that this pandemic has reinforced.

With all this, the hope is that this ranking will open more doors, that it will translate into more and more revenue, that it will be the starting point for the livelihood of more families and the path to our becoming the much-desired global benchmark, because, as our Mozambican writer Paulina Chiziane says, “where there is a desire, there is a way. We will get there.” And in this way, dear reader, we make you feel Mozambique.
