It was in 2007 that his daughter Bárbara, who is passionate about fashion and interior design, challenged him to embark on a new adventure: the hospitality sector.
The combination of life experiences and the desire to create something unique gave rise to a true oasis of tranquillity. “This project was built with much more than bricks and mortar. It was built with the heart and sensitivity of both myself and Bárbara,” says João Perino, speaking about the development of Sentidos Beach Retreat. “This resort is a complete immersion in serenity, local culture and natural beauty”.
With 26 luxury villas, Sentidos Beach Retreat is an example of sophistication integrated into nature. Each villa has been carefully designed to reflect the concept of quiet luxury, where comfort and elegant design meet the simplicity and serenity of the surrounding landscape. The resort prioritises the use of sustainable materials in the construction of its villas, and also values training and empowering the local population. “The best way to give back to the community is by creating opportunities for employment and growth,” João stresses. This commitment is visible in every detail, from the use of fresh local ingredients in the dishes served at the Paladar restaurant, to the creation of initiatives that promote guests' interaction with local culture. “For us, luxury is not just in the comfort of the villas, but in creating an authentic connection with the best of what Mozambique has to offer – its people, its nature and its culture,” João adds.
With their eyes on the future, the expansion plans for Sentidos Beach Retreat are ambitious. By 2026, the resort intends to increase the number of villas from 26 to 40, ensuring that more people can enjoy this unique experience without compromising the quality and exclusivity that define Sentidos. The construction of a modern Conference Centre and a new beach restaurant/bar are just some of the initiatives under way to continue raising the standard of hospitality offered.
