The Government of Mozambique recently announced the exemption of tourist and business visas for citizens of 28 countries, in a measure aimed at increasing tourism and attracting foreign investment. The beneficiaries of this decision include countries such as Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, France and Germany.
The exemption allows visitors with ordinary passports a stay of 30 days, extendable by a further 60 days. To benefit, travellers must register on a pre-screening platform 48 hours in advance and pay a processing fee equivalent to €9.50 (MZN 650).
The initiative follows the launch last December of the Mozambican eVisa, a platform that made it possible to request electronic pre-authorisations for travel to Mozambique. Since the introduction of the eVisa, the country has seen an increase of more than 30% in the volume of travellers compared with the same period the previous year.
The visa exemption is part of the Economic Acceleration Measures Package (PAE), announced by President Nyusi in August 2022, with the aim of making Mozambique more competitive and accessible for visitors and investors. The implementation of this package is being coordinated by Mozambique's Ministry of Economy and Finance.
