Mozambique has not yet received any official notification about citizens in an irregular situation in the United States of America (US) who may be repatriated as part of the mass deportations under way.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Manuela Lucas, assured that the government is prepared to receive any Mozambican citizen who is repatriated. However, so far there is no official information on the number of individuals involved.
"We have not received notification, and we need to receive one to know how many Mozambicans will be repatriated. So far, that notification has not arrived," said the minister, on the sidelines of the Mozambican Heroes' Day commemorations.
Despite the uncertainty, the minister assured that Mozambique is ready to face the possible return of its citizens, ensuring due support and assistance. This position reflects the country's commitment to protecting the rights of its nationals, regardless of the circumstances.
The phenomenon of large-scale deportations in the US has put pressure on several African countries, which are awaiting clear guidelines for organising the repatriation of their citizens.
The Mozambican authorities will continue to monitor the situation, awaiting formal notifications in order to act in accordance with international norms and the bilateral agreements established with the US.
