“Performative Configurations” exhibition at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre
The show brings together works by the artists Ventura Mulalene and Fernando Chaleque and offers a reflection on the human figure, memory and contemporary environmental challenges.
As part of its partnership with the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre, Millennium bim is associated with the staging of the exhibition “Performative Configurations”, by the Mozambican artists Ventura Mulalene and Fernando Chaleque, curated by Titos Pelembe.
On show at the CCFM until 12 October 2026, the exhibition brings together a set of paintings and sculptures that explore points of convergence between the two artists' practices, with the human figure and its many manifestations in contemporary social experience as the central axis.
Through different languages, materials and creative processes, Ventura Mulalene and Fernando Chaleque develop narratives that invite reflection on the relationships between the individual, memory, the environment and the spaces we inhabit.
“We believe that supporting culture is also investing in the development of society. By associating ourselves with this exhibition and with the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre's programme, we reaffirm our commitment to valuing Mozambican artists and to promoting spaces for reflection, dialogue and cultural creation that are accessible to the community”, said José Artur Caetano, Executive Director of Millennium bim.
In his work, Fernando Chaleque addresses humanity's dilemmas in the face of challenges such as climate change and environmental pollution, using different artistic languages and recycled materials. Ventura Mulalene, for his part, starts from memory and the family archive to revisit and give new meaning to experiences associated with urban contexts, building narratives that bridge personal and collective experience.
Support for the exhibition "Performative Configurations" forms part of the partnership between Millennium bim and the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre, through which the Bank continually promotes initiatives that value national artistic creation, strengthen access to culture and contribute to the development of the Mozambican cultural landscape.
Mural project raises awareness of environmental preservation
The Bank supported the creation of two murals as part of the initiative "Our Beaches, Our Sea", launched by the Maputo Municipal Council.
Millennium bim became involved in the project "Our Beaches, Our Sea", promoted by the Maputo Municipal Council in partnership with Reciclagem e Serviços, by supporting the creation of two artistic murals that form part of a group exhibition of urban art dedicated to raising awareness of the preservation of beaches and oceans. The project brings together 44 visual artists and turns public spaces in the city into an open-air gallery, promoting environmental education and the appreciation of Mozambican art.
The ceremony was presided over by the Councillor for Education, Culture and Sport of the Maputo Municipal Council, Osvaldo Faquir, representing the President of the Maputo Municipal Council, and included the unveiling of the murals and the presentation of prizes to the artists honoured in the competition.
As part of this initiative, Millennium bim sponsored the murals designed by the visual artists Dalton Camuzu and António Mucavele. Dalton Camuzu's work "Somos o Mar" (“We Are the Sea”) invites reflection on the link between human beings and the ocean, highlighting the richness of marine biodiversity and warning of the impacts of environmental degradation. António Mucavele, for his part, portrays the beauty of Mozambique's beaches and the cultural diversity of coastal communities, and promotes messages raising awareness of environmental preservation, the correct disposal of waste and the responsible use of bathing areas.
“Initiatives like this show that collaboration between public institutions, companies and artists can generate a lasting positive impact. By supporting this project, we help to enhance public space, raise awareness of environmental preservation and give visibility to the talent of Mozambican artists, bringing the community closer to culture and sustainability through art”, said José Artur Caetano, Executive Director of Millennium bim.
By supporting this project, Millennium bim associates itself with an initiative that brings art closer to the community, values the talent of Mozambican artists and promotes awareness of environmental preservation through public space.
