Millennium bim took part in the 12th edition of the Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference and Exhibition (MMEC 2026), held on 6 and 7 May in Maputo, strengthening its position among the main players in the energy and mining sectors, at a time when these industries are growing in importance for the national economy.
At a time when Mozambique is deepening the development of its natural resources and accelerating industrialisation, MMEC 2026 established itself as a relevant platform for dialogue to discuss concrete solutions, mobilise investment and coordinate the main players in the sector.
Throughout the event, Millennium bim took part in sessions devoted to financing megaprojects and to the link between the energy and mining sectors, contributing to the discussion of financial models better suited to the complexity, risk and maturity horizon of these investments.
In Session 4, devoted to the theme “Mobilising finance for the new generation of megaprojects in Mozambique”, Millennium bim was represented by Liliana Catoja, Executive Director, who took part as a speaker on the Project Finance panel, where the need to strengthen partnerships between investors, government bodies and financial institutions in structuring and executing projects was highlighted, as well as in sharing risk in a context of growing demands and greater scrutiny of their long-term viability and sustainability.
In Session 6, devoted to synergies between mining and energy, the panel was moderated by Ducla Dos Santos, Commercial Director for the Energy and Infrastructure Sector (CIB), and the importance of an integrated approach between these fields was stressed, as a condition for greater efficiency, predictability and coherence in project development.
For Liliana Catoja, Executive Director of Millennium bim, “Mozambique today has a clear opportunity to establish itself as a relevant hub in the energy and mining sectors. However, realising that opportunity requires more than capital: it demands the capacity to structure and execute solid, credible projects, the alignment of interests, the creation of stability and predictability, and ensuring their viability over time. The financial sector has a decisive role here, not only in structuring finance but also in presenting integrated solutions that make projects viable, including linking them with the local economy.”
Millennium bim's participation in MMEC 2026 fits within the Bank's strategy of strengthening its position in the sectors that are strategic to the country's economic development, by structuring financial solutions adapted to market reality, to the needs of large-scale projects and to increasing the participation of local content in the value chain of these sectors.
