On Friday the 6th, Millennium bim officially handed over the refurbishment works on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of Maputo Central Hospital (HCM), an initiative forming part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme “Mais Moçambique Pra Mim”. The work began in 2025, as part of the celebrations of the Bank's 30 years in Mozambique.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Millennium bim, Rui Pedro, and by the Director of Maputo Central Hospital, Dr Mouzinho Saíde, who thanked the Bank for the gesture and for its contribution to improving conditions for the care of children. The occasion marked the completion of work aimed at improving the unit's functional conditions and strengthening measures to prevent cross-contamination, with the aim of creating a safer, more dignified environment suited to providing intensive care to critically ill children. Also present were heads and health professionals of the unit, who expressed their appreciation of the positive impact of the work in strengthening care capacity and humanising care.
“Caring for children in critical situations is sowing hope and investing in the future. The handover of this refurbished unit reflects our commitment to child health and to the well-being of families, contributing to a safer, more humane and more functional environment. Every child who receives quality care represents not only a protected life but also hope for the whole of society”, said Rui Pedro, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Millennium bim.
Maputo Central Hospital, the country's largest hospital, receives patients from all provinces and plays a central role in providing tertiary healthcare. The refurbishment of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit is therefore a significant contribution to strengthening the hospital's capacity to respond, directly benefiting children, families and health professionals
