Millennium bim and Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre signed, on 3 July, a cooperation protocol with the aim of boosting Mozambican culture through a series of initiatives to be developed over two years.

This partnership is part of the Bank's Social Responsibility programme, “Mais Moçambique pra Mim”, under the Culture pillar, and aims to stimulate intergenerational projects, activities aimed at children, activities that promote heritage and collective memory, and support for contemporary artistic creation.

“Culture is a mobilising force that unites communities and builds the future. This partnership with Camões, established in a year so symbolic, not only for Mozambique but also for Millennium bim, which is celebrating 30 years of commitment to the country, represents another firm step in our mission to contribute to a society that is more inclusive, creative and aware of its history,” said Moisés Jorge, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Millennium bim.

For its part, Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre highlighted the importance of partnerships with the private sector in energising the cultural fabric and strengthening the bonds of bilateral cooperation between Mozambique and Portugal, placing culture as a vector of transformation and of bringing peoples closer together.

With the establishment of this partnership, Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre in Mozambique aims to enhance the shared heritage that is enriched by the interaction of the different identities and by the cultural and artistic diversity that characterise and represent the two countries.

With the support of Millennium bim, the programme of CCP Maputo will include more initiatives that feature Portuguese-Mozambican partnerships, and the positive and fruitful result for both countries that comes from cooperation in the fields of culture and knowledge is worth highlighting.
With this commitment, which began to take shape with Millennium bim's association with the exhibition commemorating 50 years of Mozambique's Independence, running at the Camões Gallery, Millennium bim establishes itself as a catalyst for initiatives that combine tradition, innovation and inclusion, in a joint effort with strategic partners to build a sustainable, participatory cultural legacy.

Curated by António Sopa, the exhibition “Moçambique 50 Anos de Independência” (“Mozambique: 50 Years of Independence”) brings together photographs and other documents that illustrate the country's profound changes since 1975, inviting reflection on identity, memory and the future, and affirming culture as a pillar of belonging, dialogue and social change.

The images on display give shape to five decades of independence, portraying Mozambique's social evolution. More than visual records, they provoke a critical, inclusive and intergenerational reading of our collective history.

"In these fifty years of independence, Millennium bim has walked side by side with Mozambique for three decades, with a firm commitment to supporting culture, social development and the affirmation of our people's identity. This exhibition symbolises that shared journey. We believe that culture has the power to unite, inspire and transform. With this partnership with Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre, we renew our commitment to supporting initiatives that link the past to the future, contributing to a more inclusive society", said Moisés Jorge, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Millennium bim, at the opening.

“When the private sector joins forces with culture, more than events are built; lasting bridges are built between communities, generations and countries. This collaboration with Millennium bim is proof of exactly that.” – stressed José Amaral, Director of the Portuguese Cultural Centre.

Part of Millennium bim's Social Responsibility programme, Mais Moçambique pra Mim, the exhibition takes on a special significance in a landmark year both for Mozambique and for Millenium Bim, given the important anniversaries that fall within it.
