Maputo inaugurates municipal health centre to strengthen primary care

The city of Maputo has celebrated the inauguration of a new Municipal Health Centre, a significant milestone in expanding the primary healthcare available to its citizens. This new facility joins other health centres in the capital, with the aim of providing a broader range of medical and disease prevention services.

Starting operations with a team of 30 staff, the centre will offer care from 7:30 to 15:30. However, services are due to be extended to include 24-hour emergency care by the end of the year, with the aim of covering the population's health needs more comprehensively.

The services provided include health promotion, disease prevention, medical consultations, specialist care for women and children, including vaccination, and complementary diagnostic tests. A notable novelty is the provision of psychosocial support and mental health services, underlining the importance of holistic care in addressing residents' needs.

Alice de Abreu, councillor for Health and Social Action of the Municipality of Maputo, emphasised the centre's mission to provide a comprehensive and accessible service, in line with the 2019-2023 Municipal Development Plan. This project reflects the council's commitment to "creating better health services" for all the capital's residents, marking an important step in guaranteeing easier and more effective access to primary healthcare in the city.
