The Mini-Basketball Tournament that Millennium bim has organised for 16 years celebrates sport, healthy development and the wellbeing of young people. The latest edition began on 5 August in the south, centre and north of the country, more specifically in the cities of Maputo, Matola, Xai-Xai, Inhambane, Manica, Nacala, Nampula, Chimoio, Beira, Lichinga, Quelimane, Pemba and Tete, and involved 1,230 children aged 6 to 11.
During the final of the tournament in the south, which took place on 30 September in the city of Inhambane, identity cards were issued to around 60 of the children who took part. At the same time, some of the other participating children, together with Millennium bim staff, delivered non-perishable foodstuffs to the Inhambane Provincial Children’s Home, which houses 25 children in vulnerable situations. These actions demonstrate the Bank’s strengthened social commitment to Mozambican communities.

For the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Millennium bim, João Martins, this is an initiative “that promotes the development of healthy habits in children and young people, while also serving as a platform for promoting national sport. As an institution that supports sport, we are proud to contribute actively to the development of these children, in a playful initiative that brings with it human and social values such as empathy, solidarity and a team spirit, and that has already produced talents at national level”.

The initiative is part of Millennium bim’s social responsibility programme “Mais Moçambique pra Mim”, which over the years has been carrying out different social, cultural, sporting, environmental and educational activities for the social wellbeing of Mozambicans, with an emphasis on children and young people.
