The Government of Japan is deepening cooperation with Mozambique by donating a monitoring vessel and air navigation devices, totalling more than 23 million dollars. Mozambique's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, announced the donation agreement in the capital, Maputo.
The gift includes a surveillance vessel, still under construction, and various air navigation equipment, such as ground-to-air communication radios, fire-fighting vehicles, drones, airport weather stations and an air traffic control simulator. Verónica Macamo expressed deep appreciation for Japan's continued support for Mozambique's economic and social development efforts, and reaffirmed the wish to see the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries further strengthened.
To ensure the success of operations and the correct functioning of the donated equipment, a comprehensive training programme will be implemented, covering air traffic controllers and maintenance professionals. The programme aims to equip local staff to make the most of the resources provided by the Japanese Government.
The donation is an important milestone in relations between Mozambique and Japan, and demonstrates Japan's commitment to contributing to sustainable development and security in Mozambique.
