Infinitas Learning acquires LeYa in Portugal and Mozambique

Infinitas Group intends to continue "its path of growth and consolidation, both as an educational partner for teachers and pupils and as a leading publisher for its authors and readers", it says in a statement.

The LeYa operations in Portugal and Mozambique have been acquired by Dutch company Infinitas Learning, the Portuguese-speaking group announced on Monday, without disclosing the value of the deal.

According to a statement from the LeYa group, the sale is subject to approval by the Competition Authority and excludes operations in Brazil and Angola.

"Infinitas intends LeYa, S.A. to retain its autonomy both in developing products and services for the Portuguese education system and in general publishing. Both LeYa Global and Infinitas believe that the new shareholder’s extensive experience in developing digital education solutions will take LeYa, S.A. to a new level of innovation," the statement stressed.

In the same statement, the company noted that, once integrated into the Infinitas Group, it intends to continue "its path of growth and consolidation, both as an educational partner for teachers and pupils and as a leading publisher for its authors and readers".

"Infinitas is also considering the possibility of expanding its technology hub in Portugal, and the acquisition of LeYa, S.A. is an important step in that direction," the group said.

Quoted in the same statement, LeYa S.A.’s chief executive, Ana Rita Bessa, said: "We are excited about this transaction, which we see as an excellent opportunity for the company and for Infinitas, with mutual benefits in terms of growth and the sharing of the solid expertise of their respective employees".

Based in Utrecht, Infinitas Learning is owned by Dutch company NPM Capital and owns several educational publishing companies in the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden, according to its website. It employs around 600 people.

When NPM Capital acquired it in 2021, the company said it aimed to "drive international growth" in Europe.

Founded in 2008, LeYa is based in Portugal and has a presence in Angola, Brazil and Mozambique.

According to its website, in Portugal it publishes under the brands ASA, BIS, Caminho, Casa das Letras, Dom Quixote, Gailivro, LeYa, Lua de Papel, Oficina do Livro, Quinta Essência, Sebenta, Teorema and Texto.

In Mozambique, LeYa "publishes its general-interest and educational books in Mozambique under the Texto Editores brand".
