From 13 to 16 May 2024, the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, hosted INDABA 2024. This event, already established as one of the continent's leading tourism marketing platforms, showcased a vast range of African tourism products, attracting the interest of international buyers and press. This edition was notable for the inclusion of the Hidden Gems Pavilion, which gave tourism businesses a unique opportunity to present their products and services to a global audience. Participants were selected according to rigorous criteria that included market readiness, marketing efforts and the relevance of the products or services offered, which ensured high-quality representation. INDABA 2024 highlighted the commitment of South Africa's Department of Tourism to the sustainable growth and diversification of the tourism sector, offering an exceptional platform for emerging entrepreneurs to gain international recognition. It thus aroused great interest among Mozambican stakeholders, always in search of new market opportunities and strategic partnerships on the continent.

Mozambique raises its tourism profile with innovative strategies and global partnerships
At the 2024 edition of INDABA, Mozambique's presence was an ambitious statement of its tourism and economic aims. With a strategic presence, the country reinforced its position not only as a tourist destination of excellence, but also as a promising investment point on the African continent.

Our representatives arrived in Durban with a clear agenda: to promote the country's natural wonders, rich culture and historical heritage. And rightly so. The beautiful beaches, national parks and unique cultural experiences of Inhambane highlighted at this fair are merely a sample of what Mozambique has to offer. The strategy used clearly aimed to attract more tourists and, with them, a significant increase in the sector's revenue.

The expected impact of taking part in the 2024 edition of the fair extends beyond tourism. It was an exceptional platform for attracting foreign investment, with Mozambique showcasing opportunities in new tourism infrastructure projects and possible public-private partnerships. The interactions throughout the event facilitated a robust network of contacts, making it possible to establish direct relationships with potential investors. Collaborations were discussed with countries and private companies in areas such as tourism infrastructure and joint marketing operations. These alliances are essential for overcoming the sector's common challenges and driving the sustainable development of tourism in Mozambique.

Located in Durban, the fair served as an ideal meeting point for exploring regional synergies. Geographical proximity, while reinforcing Mozambican participation, also attracted visitors interested in the tourism offering of Southern Africa as a whole. Durban proved to be a wise choice, facilitating logistics and strengthening the cultural and economic ties between neighbouring countries.

Active participation in INDABA was also an opportunity to learn and to find innovative solutions to persistent challenges in the sector, such as the need to improve tourism infrastructure and the effectiveness of promoting the country as a tourist destination.

Drawing on the experience of previous editions, the insights gained were used to fine-tune the approach, which resulted in meticulous preparation and an even more impactful presentation in 2024. This continuous learning stood out as a crucial element for success at the fair.

INDABA 2024 was a significant step towards strengthening the tourism sector in Mozambique. With a well-articulated strategy, the country not only raised its international visibility but also strengthened the foundations for a prosperous and sustainable tourism future. Taking part in this global platform promises to boost tourism and local development, generating jobs and promoting the country's unique culture and heritage.
