The cities of Maputo and Beira recently hosted vibrant and unforgettable celebrations for football lovers, with the live broadcast of the UEFA Champions League final. Approximately 800 spectators gathered at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre (CCFM) in Maputo, and around 200 people at the Maputo Padel Club, while 800 spectators gathered at Oceana in the city of Beira, to watch the clash between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. The Spanish side's 2-0 victory brought an atmosphere of euphoria and excitement to both cities.
These events, organised by HEINEKEN Mozambique, are part of a global initiative by the group that aims to offer football fans unique experiences in various parts of the world. The final was an opportunity for Mozambican supporters to experience the thrill of one of the most prestigious tournaments in the king of sports. At the CCFM, a responsible-consumption activation was held, providing free taxis to take fans home.
By winning its 15th Champions League title, Real Madrid reinforced its position as the most decorated club in the competition. Borussia Dortmund, for their part, were seeking their second trophy, after their last win in the 1996/97 season.
The match, played at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London, provided a spectacle worthy of the grandeur of the competition.
Filipa Neves, Marketing Director of HEINEKEN Mozambique, highlighted the importance of the event for local fans: "It was an epic final, worthy of the grandeur of the Champions League. With our characteristic touch, we managed to give lovers of this legendary competition a truly dream final. Everything was designed for the true fans, because they are the ones who give this prestigious competition its brilliance and meaning."
Staging these events is another step in the various initiatives that HEINEKEN Mozambique has implemented to strengthen its presence in the local market and create a closer connection with consumers. In 2022, the brand had already brought the iconic Champions League trophy to the streets of Maputo, in an event that delighted thousands of fans.
The road to the final was just as exciting. Real Madrid overcame Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, while Borussia Dortmund knocked out Paris Saint-Germain in an adrenaline-filled encounter.
This edition also marked the last time the competition was played in the traditional group-stage format, adding a note of nostalgia to the celebration.
Passion for football and the Champions League was once again in the spotlight, with HEINEKEN Mozambique providing an unforgettable experience for local fans. Events such as these reinforce the brand's commitment to offering unique and unforgettable moments to its consumers, consolidating its position in the market and celebrating the passion for sport that unites millions of people around the world.
