Amid a flurry of activity on Mozambican soil, the renowned NRP Setúbal, a Portuguese ocean patrol vessel of distinguished repute, made its presence felt yesterday by docking at the well-known port of Maputo. Its berth until the fifth day of this week forms an integral part of the grand scheme known as Mar Aberto, according to a statement from the respected Portuguese Navy.

The NRP Setúbal's Mozambican schedule includes a series of maritime exercises and training with Mozambican navy personnel, underlining a living example of mutual cooperation in the sphere of defence. This link between Portugal and Mozambique has cemented its history over thirty years of continuous exchange.

The planned activities include a range of educational initiatives at the distinguished Portuguese School of Mozambique. There, students will have the chance to attend an informative lecture and enjoy a detailed tour of the ship. Once its productive visit to Mozambique is over, the NRP Setúbal and its dedicated crew will prepare to join the celebration of Portugal Day in vibrant Cape Town, South Africa. The celebrations will have the privilege of being led by the President of the Portuguese Republic, the respected Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

This naval standard set sail from the Lisbon Naval Base on 15 April, alongside the NRP Centauro, embarking on a mission as part of the Mar Aberto initiative. The undertaking spans a four-month journey through 14 nations, docking at 20 ports, with the main mission of carrying out maritime security activities and providing invaluable support to foreign policy.
