Gorongosa National Park, one of Mozambique's most emblematic nature reserves and an example of African biodiversity conservation, will be the beneficiary of a Norwegian investment aimed at boosting the local economy by adding value to the coffee produced in the region. The sum of 2 million Norwegian kroner will be used to acquire a coffee processing unit, the Norwegian embassy in Maputo announced.

This funding, signed on 1 November by Norway's Ambassador to Mozambique, Haakon Gram-Johannessen, and the President of the Gorongosa Restoration Project, Greg Carr, aims to support the smallholders and farmers who grow coffee on the slopes of the Gorongosa Mountain. The initiative promises not only to improve the quality of the final product but also to increase local farmers' incomes, thus contributing to the region's sustainable development.

The brand "A Nossa Gorongosa", which is already on the shelves of several international supermarkets, is a testament to the success and quality of Mozambican coffee, which has been gaining recognition abroad. With the new processing unit, production is expected to be valued even more highly, reinforcing the position of Gorongosa coffee on the global market.

Gorongosa National Park is one of the richest in biodiversity in the world and has been the focus of continuing efforts for its restoration and preservation. The partnership established between the Government of Mozambique and the Carr Foundation has enabled significant progress in protecting wildlife and promoting community development. The extension of the joint management agreement for a further 25 years, signed in 2018, is a sign of the long-term commitment to conservation and the well-being of local communities.

The Gorongosa Project works with various government bodies, international organisations and higher education institutions, in an integrated approach that combines environmental protection with scientific research and social development. Norway's support reinforces this holistic vision and represents a vote of confidence in the future of the Park and its communities.

With this new chapter in Gorongosa's history, Mozambique reaffirms its role on the international stage as a country that knows how to combine nature conservation with improving its citizens' living conditions, showing that it is possible to move towards a future in which the environment and economic development flourish side by side.
