As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme “Mais Moçambique pra Mim”, Millennium bim has completed the rehabilitation of the Zimpeto Municipal Library, giving back to the community a space for knowledge, reading and culture, a direct investment in education and in the future of the new generations.
The reopening ceremony, held on 17 October, was attended by the Councillor for Education, Culture and Sport of Maputo City Council, Osvaldo Faquir, representing the Chairman of the Council, as well as representatives of Millennium bim, local authorities and members of the community.
Millennium bim has completed the rehabilitation of the Zimpeto Municipal Library, giving back to the community a space for knowledge, reading and culture.
Located in the Zimpeto neighbourhood, about three kilometres from the Wholesale Market and close to the Millennium bim branch, the Library was originally opened in 2008. Since then, it has become a local landmark, receiving around 200 visitors a month, mainly students and families, and establishing itself as an essential space for study, reading and sociocultural interaction.
The temporary closure of the Library deprived the community of a vital space for learning and access to knowledge. Aware of this reality, Millennium bim rehabilitated the building with the aim of giving Zimpeto a decent, functional space, ready to support students and the whole community.
“With this Library we want to give the young people of Zimpeto a space that awakens curiosity, encourages reading and promotes knowledge. More than a building, it is a door open to the future, because we believe that education is the true foundation of Mozambique's progress,” said Miguel Crispim, Southern Regional Coordinating Director of Millennium bim.
This intervention is part of the Bank's Social Responsibility programme, through which, since 2006, Millennium bim has supported structural projects in the areas of education, health, culture, sport and the environment. At the same time, it forms part of the celebrations of Millennium bim's 30th anniversary, a journey marked by closeness to communities and by commitment to the human and social development of the country.
