As part of its commitment to financial inclusion, BCI carried out a number of financial literacy initiatives throughout 2025, reaching more than 2,000 people across the country. The activities covered children, young people, university students, artists and local communities, promoting saving habits, responsible money management and sustainability.
Among the initiatives undertaken, the Financial Literacy and Sustainability Project stood out, run in several schools during Savings Month. The programme involved dozens of pupils in creative projects on saving and sustainability, culminating in an awards gala where the best projects were recognised. Dom Bosco Secondary School took 1st place, followed by Malhangalene Secondary School (2nd place) and Solidariedade School (3rd place).
At the awards ceremony, BCI Director Luís Aguiar praised the young people's commitment and creativity, saying that "it is a pride and a pleasure to have such worthwhile projects, which show dedication and talent". Luís Aguiar also offered a special word of thanks to all the participants "for their positive role and excellent collaboration in bringing this initiative to life, which reflects our shared commitment to financial education and youth development".
The 13th edition of Global Money Week, under the motto "Think before you go: wise finances today, success tomorrow", was another important milestone in the bank's financial education strategy. The initiative took place in schools, universities and BCI media libraries in Maputo and Beira, offering participants talks, interactive sessions and practical demonstrations on entrepreneurship, personal budgeting and financial literacy.
Complementing these activities, BCI held training sessions at institutions such as the Portuguese School, Externato Cantinho do Céu, Externato Linda and the Kutsaka Association. These activities involved pupils, parents and guardians, and young ambassadors, with a focus on financial management, conscious consumption habits and social entrepreneurship.
These initiatives reflect BCI's ongoing commitment to contributing to a more informed and financially responsible society, consolidating its role as an active partner in Mozambique's sustainable development.
