The waterfalls of Namaacha

Namaacha lies on a plateau in the Libombo mountain range, 76 km from the city of Maputo, close to the borders with South Africa and the Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), with a road border post with the latter country. Its name derives from Lomahacha, a former ruler of the region.

It is in this area that the famous waterfalls are located, the source of one of the most widely consumed mineral waters in the country – Água da Namaacha. Waterfalls, natural pools and verdant landscapes give this place a singular beauty, allowing visitors to enjoy refreshing dips in crystal-clear waters, spot rare birds, or go on picnics and walks among cliffs and shrubs that complement its wonders.

Thanks to the rainfall of recent times, the waterfalls have water again, captivating nature lovers once more and boosting tourism in the area

Because of an intense drought that hit the region some years ago, at one point the waterfalls dried up, which made them lose much of their charm. However, thanks to the rainfall of recent times, the waterfalls have water again, captivating nature lovers once more and boosting tourism in the area.

We invite you, dear reader, to visit this unique place in Mozambique, and we recommend that, while there, you also take the opportunity to visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, the Mário Coluna Academy, an institution dedicated to training young footballers, and the Namaacha Zoo.
