Continuing our series of ten articles exploring the projects selected for the CFAO Entrepreneurship Challenge, in partnership with Xonguila Magazine, we present AMVIRO (the Mozambican Association for Victims of Road Insecurity), the fourth of ten selected projects. This initiative stands out for its dedication and impact in road safety, making it a remarkable example. This challenge aims to highlight ten initiatives focused on mobility and road safety throughout the year.
AMVIRO is an organisation dedicated to strengthening the promotion of road accident prevention and mitigating the devastating effects of road traffic accidents in Mozambique. With a clear mission to provide integrated informational, educational, preventive and interventional solutions, AMVIRO aims to transform Mozambican roads into more accessible and safer environments for all their users. The organisation aspires to lead road safety activities in the country, guided by the values of prevention, solidarity, rationality, sustainable development and empathy.

Operating in all 11 provinces of our country, it focuses on three main areas: road accident prevention, mitigation of the effects of road traffic accidents, and advocacy. Recently, AMVIRO has launched several campaigns, with significant impact, to reinforce its mission and vision, standing out for their reach and impact.

One of the most prominent initiatives is the First Aid and Road Safety Training and Capacity Building, carried out in partnership with the Police of the Republic of Mozambique and the Mozambique Red Cross. These activities, part of the Community Road Safety Project, aim to empower teachers and community leaders, promoting a culture of safety from the grassroots of society.

Along the same lines, AMVIRO has also organised and held various talks on road safety in more than ten schools, most notably the one held at the Engenheiro Filipe Jacinto Nyusi Secondary School, which sought to raise children's awareness of the importance of road safety, encouraging safe and responsible practices. Complementing these actions, Anviro has devoted efforts to the Young Traffic Marshals Training, teaching primary school children safe ways to cross roads and the meaning of traffic signs.

In addition to these educational actions, two recent campaigns, TIVONELENI and Drive and Walk Safely, stood out for their reach and impact. The TIVONELENI campaign, held in Maputo, aimed to reinforce efforts to combat road accidents during the festive season, raising awareness among drivers and pedestrians of the importance of obeying traffic rules. Similarly, the Drive and Walk Safely campaign focused on road safety during the festive period, reinforcing the message that responsible behaviour on the roads can save lives.

The Community Road Safety Project (PSRC), now in its third edition, continues to have a significant impact on communities. This project includes interventions in schools, teacher training and daily pedestrian monitoring, establishing itself as one of the pillars of AMVIRO's strategy for a more aware and safer society.

AMVIRO not only acts in practice, but also values the dissemination of knowledge and public awareness-raising, using for this purpose its channel called Amviro TV, created in 2020 and available on social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook to extend the reach of its messages to different target audiences.

Through these initiatives, AMVIRO has managed to raise awareness of road safety, reaching a diverse audience and promoting safe practices that benefit especially the most vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly. They are an inspiring example of how dedication and continuous effort can transform lives and communities, promoting a culture of road safety that is becoming essential for the sustainable development of our country.

This Xonguila column encourages the public to take part in this movement for change. If you have a project focused on mobility or road safety, do not hesitate to share it with us. Send your proposal to the general email geral@xonguila.co.mz and join us in building a safer and more aware Mozambique.
