On the morning of 31 January 2023, the start of the school year took place at Guebo Complete Primary School, with the participation of the environmental association UPA, invited by DIGESCO (Diário do Gestor Escolar) in partnership with PUPA (Pais Unidos pelo Ambiente).

UPA was challenged to convey its main messages to an unusual target audience: the parents and guardians who turned up not only to find out which class and room their children had been assigned to, but also to attend the ceremony. To do so, the association had the help of two environmental education specialists.

UPA had the privilege of putting its main objectives into practice, namely spreading the broad concept of recycling and the importance of giving a new life to something we consider useless and, above all, instilling a more ecological mindset in the community, while organising activities at the school to build interpersonal relationships with parents and guardians, teachers, teaching assistants and everyone willing to learn.

There were several contributions and several bodies that provided unforgettable and productive moments on that January morning, among them the members of UPA, the representatives of the association DIGESCO, two former students of Eduardo Mondlane University with degrees in environmental education, the members of the new management of Guebo Complete Primary School (the Head Teacher and the Deputy Head) and the head of the police delegation, who made an appeal to parents and guardians to be alert to the use of illicit substances.

This lovely event ended with the planting of four trees, to mark not only the sustainable start of the 2023 school year but also the process of growth, together with the various lessons that each pupil should learn.
