We know today that, in order to raise happy, well-informed children, we need to do much more than give them safety and education and promote their health and well-being: we must nourish their minds and stimulate their creativity so that they become adults who are curious about and interested in the world around them.
Certain of the importance of investing in our children, and as part of its Value Proposition to its employees, Absa Bank Moçambique launched the initiative “Expressing Myself is a Right”, an event that brought together the children of its employees, art and national culture. In practice, the visual artist Butcheca opened the doors of his studio to welcome aspiring young creatives so that there would be direct contact between employees from the Bank’s different areas and their children, encouraging a taste for art from the tenderest age.
In a very rich and dynamic experience, the established artist explained to the pint-sized artists how his creative process works, and each of them set to work. As well as showing his creative space, Butcheca showed some of his works, both paintings (completed and still in progress) and sculptures.
Inspired by the environment, each child produced a painting that will form part of an exhibition on show at Absa’s Premier Branch in the city of Maputo from 1 June, International Children’s Day.
With this initiative Absa Bank reinforces its positioning as a Bank of People for People and reiterates the importance of building bonds between employees, their families and the Organisation. At the same time, by giving the youngest the tools and stimulating their creativity, Absa Bank Moçambique is encouraging freedom of expression and placing culture as a crucial cornerstone of a society with greater sociocultural support, so important in the sustainable growth of nations.
This is yet another initiative in which the Bank demonstrates its commitment to promoting and investing in Mozambican culture, through citizenship initiatives that represent its Africanness, putting the building of a better Mozambique first.
