In a world where the education of the new generations is crucial, an interesting project is emerging in Ponta do Ouro. The dedicated Kanimambo Association aims to create the “Children’s Park”. Imagine a place not only devoted to the preservation of nature, but also designed to inspire, educate and shape the young minds of tomorrow through play.
This project, still in the planning stage, envisages a park divided into four areas, some of which are already fully up and running. In the “Free Play Area”, children find the ideal environment to burn off energy and learn about social interaction. Thanks to contributions from the community, this area has swings, slides, tyres and ropes. The “Nature Area” aims to be more than a simple garden, also serving as an outdoor classroom where themes such as environmental preservation and sustainability are addressed. The “Games Area”, centred on sport and physical development, already has a cycle circuit, with bicycles donated to the park, and there are plans to add a multi-purpose pitch. The “Reading Area” will provide a quiet environment for intellectual stimulation, fostering communication and artistic expression.

Although the focus is on children aged 6 to 15, the park project is inclusive of the whole community. There is deep community involvement, not only in funding and building, but also in maintaining and bringing the space to life. Suggested activities include tree planting and gym classes. The conversion of organic waste into compost for sale, which will contribute to the sustainability of the space, is already under way.

In partnership with bodies such as the Lwandi Surf Association and the singing and dance group Txina Ponta, the “Children’s Park” aspires to be more than a mere play space. It aims to be a pillar in the all-round development of the children of Ponta do Ouro. In the “Children’s Park”, the present is sown so that a bright future can be reaped. With every smile, every game, every lesson learnt, hope is renewed for a more harmonious, ecologically responsible and cohesive Mozambique.
