Mwana Nketo

Mwana Nketo is the first feature film by the Angolan director José Ambriz Satanha. It tells the story of Kwanhama and Massala, two young people from different ethnic groups (Kwanhama and Bakongo) who decide to defy their cultures so that they can live out the strong and genuine love they feel for each other. Will this intense passion be strong enough to overcome all the barriers imposed by society? Or, as in many classic love stories, such as that of Romeo and Juliet, once ancient traditions are broken, does the result culminate in great tragedy?

Although focused on the romance of a young couple, "Mwana Nketo" addresses important themes linked to valuing local habits, ancestors and Angolan culture

Although focused on the romance of the young couple, the film also addresses important themes linked to the rediscovery and valuing of local habits, ancestors and Angolan culture, which, through the effects of modernisation, are often forgotten.

The cinematography, with beautiful images captured in remote places in Angolan territory, is one of the film's strong points, and the cast includes Leles Twavequemba, Evanilde Ferreira, Fernando Mailoge, Carlos de Carvalho and Mariana António. The executive producers are Sílvio Nascimento, Allen Mamona and Joel.
