Maida is the first Mozambican telenovela, broadcast daily. It is already in its second season
A naive and innocent teenager from a rural area leaves her family and studies behind and sets off for the big city to work as a domestic worker in the home of a rich and complex family. It is a classic story that combines fairy-tale romance with the relevant social issue of girls' education in Mozambique.
The cast includes Tânia Tembe, in the role of Maida, Dadivo José, Nilza Sitoi and Dino Mboa, among other talented national actors. The production is by Gabriela Gulamussen and Telma da Silva, and the direction was by Ivandro Mahocha. Through the number of episodes it already has and the good reception it has earned, Maida demonstrates that it is possible for Mozambique to have quality national fiction production on its channels on a regular basis.
