Last June, the 5th edition of the Raiz Festival took place in various cultural venues in the city and province of Maputo. This event, which is held annually, is dedicated to Mozambican roots music, with a view to rescuing, preserving, valuing and publicising the country’s cultural diversity, promoting reflection and discussion on Mozambican tradition and intangible heritage and their transformations. It also aims to create a network among artists in order to develop cultural and creative industries for local and international promotion.

Bringing together artists from the region and the world, the Festival includes various activities, such as concerts of ethnic and traditional music, talks and debates, screenings of ethnographic films, and artistic residencies for musical creation and composition characterised by the fusion of instruments, whether traditional or modern.
