The state-owned company Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) is implementing a moratorium on energy billing in the culture and tourism sector, aiming to ease the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the company announced today.

EDM says in a statement that about 20 companies are benefiting from debt rescheduling and payment flexibility.

The electricity company is raising awareness among more companies to join the restructuring of electricity debts.

"Small and medium-sized enterprises in the industrial, commercial, agricultural, fishing and water sectors, as well as in hospitality, catering, education and sports and cultural facilities, have the possibility of accessing the moratorium", the statement notes.

By joining the initiative, companies can benefit from an extended period for paying off their energy bills in instalments, the note explains.
